Voices of hope: Displaced Iraqis

The "Voices of hope: Displaced Iraqis" stories were developed in collaboration with the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) during a mission to Amman, Jordan in October 2010. Click on the photos below to enter each gallery.

Having fled violence and destruction, Iraqi refugees living in Jordan now face isolation and uncertainty. Living in sparsely furnished apartments dotted across Amman, Iraqis say they have little limited connection to other Iraqi families or to their Jordanian neighbors.  Their poverty precludes the Arab tradition of reciprocal hospitality, making it harder to build relationships. Furthermore, the uncertainty of resettlement adds to their stress.

Four Iraqi refugee families told ICMC the stories of their flight from Iraq and about their new lives in Amman.
